Great Software Since 1982

Nokia 3650 Development
I have a Nokia 3650 and have put together the Java2ME develeopment tools with NetBeans so I can program the phone, and possibly do more Mobile Wireless work. Test deployment page.
Simple Java Server Monitor I needed a simple way to monitor a server I rely on and notify me if it stops running. ServerMonitor is my solution.
Hexagonal Cellular Automata
As an undergraduate at Caltech I did summer research at Los Alamos National Labs.
The work involved hexagonal lattice-gas fluid flow simulations on a Cray X-MP for which I did some assembly language programming and FORTRAN optimizations.

While my current project is not as rigorous, it does run on Mac OS X, and it makes pretty images.

The application is Cocoa (Objective-C) and OpenGL based, and I will be making the source available as soon as I have some time to put it into a nice package.

Feel free to encourage me in this effort....

Download CA1.app ( zip file, OS 10.2 ) - executable only.

iPod notes updated [17March2004] - use CDParanoia for ripping.

Web/WAP Development
I am continually working on my site and linux server. I need to bring up a database just so I can keep my SQL and JDBC skills extant. I also need to do some basic design work on this site, but I do not claim to be a designer. I can specify a good UI, but you probably don't want me doing the final layout.

Inverted Pendulum
This is a simple example of the development a physically based simulation. It includes all the derived physics, and Java code that handles the simulation. I have used the same kind of derivation in video games.

PostgreSQL on OS X Setting up a local database.

Repton
My first large software project was a best seller in the 80s on Apple II, Atari, and C-64.
Dan Thompson had the original game concept, and I wrote the original Apple II version.

Here is a nice C-64 screen shot, and the box art.

Jeff's Robots amazing Repton Tribute page.
Apple II History - 14th top Apple II arcade game 1983.
The game shows up for about 3 seconds in Triumph of the Nerds.

People and Companies
Steven Hadler is a software architect I've enjoyed working with since we were both at Razorfish.

Quake Trap is a San Francisco recording studio that does very cool music. I provide them with technical advice. Check out Sasha Squid.

Ivan Wachter is an Illustrator, Animator, Character Designer whose work I really enjoy.
